United boss Louis van Gaal, according to
reports, wanted to bring his Netherlands compatriot to Old Trafford this
month and was hopeful of securing a £30m swoop.
But a deal for Strootman to sign for United before the close of the winter transfer window looks increasingly unlikely.Roma president James Pallotta is determined to keep Strootman at the Stadio Olimpico until at least the end of the season and will rebuff any approach for the 24-year-old before the February 2 deadline.

Dutch journalist Hugo Borst has previously claimed that the Netherlands international has already shaken hands on a deal to join Van Gaal at United.
The former PSV man would have been included in Van Gaal's World Cup squad in the summer if not for the injury he suffered playing for Roma back in March.
