The Blues take on Watford in the third
round of the FA Cup tomorrow, and to whet the appetite ahead of the
game, we have snippets from our three most recent meetings in the
competition...
The Blues began the defence of the trophy in 2010 with a comfortable
5-0 win over Watford at Stamford Bridge, with Daniel Sturridge netting a
brace.
We went into the game without the services of Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien and John Mikel Obi, who were all away on African Cup of Nations duty, but still had too much for the visitors.
The manner of the victory allowed Carlo Ancelotti to give second-half substitute appearances to youngsters Gael Kakuta, Nemanja Matic and Fabio Borini, while former Chelsea left-back Jon Harley came off the bench for Watford.
Frank Lampard scored a good goal, Watford put through their own net and the third goal was described on the official Chelsea website in the following way.
'Yury Zhirkov was settling into his midfield role and teaming up well with Ashley Cole on the left flank. The summer arrival would be instrumental in Chelsea's third.
'It was a shot drilled from the edge of the box by Zhirkov that took a slight touch from Malouda before bouncing past Loach.'
We went on to retain the trophy courtesy of a 1-0 win over Portsmouth at Wembley, a victory which secured the domestic Double for the first time in our history.

Ray Wilkins was in temporary charge as we came from behind to secure
our place in the 2009 quarter-finals, with Nicolas Anelka producing a
masterclass in finishing, scoring all three Chelsea goals at Vicarage
Road.
Wilkins handed young defender Michael Mancienne his debut for the club at right-back, while Miroslav Stoch came off the bench during the second half at the expense of Mikel.
When Brendan Rodgers’s side took the lead through Tamas Priskin with just 21 minutes left on the clock, our future in the competition looked in doubt.
Anelka, however, stepped up to produce the goods, firing home a 17-minute hat-trick to send us through.
The goal which ensured the Frenchman walked away with the match ball was described as follows in the club’s official match report.
‘Still the Hornets' string had not been totally drawn. It took a good Cech save to keep out McAnuff on 90 minutes but it was the Blues turn to counter-attack with great effect. Stoch and Kalou combined down the left and when the ball was centred, Anelka's shot from 15 yards out was pin-point. Game over.’

Adrian Mutu scored a brace, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Eidur Gudjohnsen also on target, setting up a fourth-round clash at Scunthorpe.
The fourth goal, scored by Gudjohnsen, was the pick of the bunch, and here’s how it was described on the official Chelsea website
‘Ranieri freshened up his side by bringing on Gudjohnsen for Hasselbaink and Duff, back after five games out, for Mutu and the two repaid him for the chance.
‘A five-man move brought the ball out of defence and up to Duff in the centre-circle. He drove on and laid the ball wide to Gudjohnsen running in from left.
‘Now Eidur knows how to score the odd spectacular or two and normally they come in the month of January. With perfect precision on his first-time shot, he curved the ball beyond the keeper and high into the net.’
