Arsenal remain confident of signing Jamie Vardy even though the transfer saga threatens to drag on for at least another 24 hours.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has sanctioned a £20m bid to trigger Vardy's release clause from Leicester City.

Arsenal have already held talks with 29-year-old Vardy and have offered him a contract worth around £120,000-a-week believed to be over the course of three years with the option of a fourth.

Leicester are determined to fight to keep Vardy and are in the process of making him a counter offer and that is the reason the deal is being held up.

Leicester have asked him to delay making a decision.

Vardy only signed a new deal this season but it was worth around £60,000-a-week and the England striker knows he can get more elsewhere.
