Juan Mata laments Manchester United's inconsistency but insists success will come next season

Ander Herrera celebrates with Juan Mata after scoring the first goal
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has lamented the Red Devils' inconsistency this campaign - but says that the team will fight for trophies next season.

The Spanish midfielder was one of United's standout performers during a campaign which saw them qualify for the Champions League once again following a year out of the competition.
But the fact that United only made the top four and did not challenge for the title was down to inconsistency, according to Mata.
A lack of goals has been criticised by some, as United failed to kill off some of the games which they will feel they deserved to win.
Writing on his official website's blog, Mata hailed the supporters of United and said that they will be celebrating success at Old Trafford once again in the near future.
He wrote: "In some stages we played very good football, being very competitive especially against our main rivals, and we enjoyed some important wins; on the other hand, there were periods when we were not consistent enough to fight for the title, or suffered some painful defeats.
"In general terms, we reached the main goal of the club this season: to have the chance to play the Champions League (we still have to earn it in the play-off round), but this team has to fight for trophies, and we will put all our efforts to that after summer. That’s what you deserve."
Personally, Mata says that he will try and build on what he has achieved with United this season and says that he will always set his sights high.
Mata says that he wants success on both a personal perspective and also with the team.
