Liverpool step up Christian Benteke chase
Brendan Rodgers will remain firmly in charge of directing Liverpool’s recruitment policy, despite the uncertainty about his future.
And that will see the Reds boss step up his long-standing interest in Christian Benteke with a firm and committed approach after the Belgium striker leads Aston Villa into this weekend’s FA Cup final.
The Irishman faces a robust review of his performance this season over the next fortnight, as he meets with the club’s American owners to determine the direction all football matters will make.
But with directors and principle shareholders John Henry, Mike Gordon and Tom Werner making it clear Rodgers retains their confidence for time being, he has been told to continue with his summer plans.
His most pressing need is for a striker who can deliver goals – and he has told his employers in no uncertain terms they must invest heavily in a centre forward who can take the load off the fragile frame of Daniel Sturridge.
Theo Walcott set for Arsenal talks as Gunners monitor Sterling situation
Theo Walcott will hold contract talks with Arsenal next week - and they could open the door for Raheem Sterling.
Walcott, 26, who has one year left on his current £90,000-a-week deal, will sit down with Arsenal after the FA Cup final and his first priority is to stay at the Emirates.
But Walcott’s biggest concern is playing time rather than financial and that will be the key as to whether they can agree a new deal.
Liverpool are keen on the England winger as they face a major dilemma over contract rebel Sterling, 20, who is also on Arsenal’s hit list this summer.
Manchester City are prepared to launch a huge bid to sign Sterling but Arsenal and Chelsea believe the appeal of London - where he grew up as a young player at QPR - could give them an advantage.
That may help Arsenal beat off strong competition for Sterling butany potential deal could still hinge on Walcott.
United lining up £40million Karim Benzema transfer
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
Louis van Gaal is expected to bolster his frontline this summer as his side return to the Champions League.
United have opted against making Radamel Falcao's loan move a permanent one while Robin van Persie has struggled for fitness over the course of the campaign.
And according to the Sun, Benzema is at the top of Van Gaal's wishlist.
It is claimed United are ready to pay £40million for the French striker, who was a target for Sir Alex Ferguson before his move to the Bernabeu.
De Gea's Real Madrid move done?
Iker Casillas has hinted that David De Gea's move to Real Madrid is a done deal and claims he is relishing competing against him.
De Gea has still to publicly announce if he will stay at Manchester United or return to his native Madrid to sign for Real.
Casillas believes he will soon be his team-mate at the Bernabeu and claims his experience at Old Trafford will help him adapt.
The Real goalkeeping legend believes De Gea has the potential to succeed him as No 1.
"I'm delighted with the competition," he told Spanish TV. "My contract does not say you have to start.
"I would like to finish my career here.
"De Gea is a really nice boy and a goalkeeper for the present and future. He'll be well received and helped.
"We'll compete. He can handle the pressure and will be served from his experience at United."
