The new Real Madrid boss said of the Ballon d'Or holder: "Everything is fine. In football you have to concentrate on the future, and the future is quite positive"
Rafa Benitez has insisted
Cristiano Ronaldo is happy at Real Madrid after he destroyed Manchester City with a dazzling display Down Under,
writes Steve Bates in Melbourne .
The Spanish boss dismissed claims he's fallen out with
the Bernabeu idol who was caught on camera in Melbourne angrily complaining about training methods under Madrid's new coach.
But there was no hint of disharmony as man of the match Ronaldo scored one and enthralled the 99,382 crowd – a record for football at the MCG – with a sparkling show of party tricks that had Manuel Pellegrini's stars on the run.
Said Benitez later: “People were talking about something that happened in a training session but you could see today he’s happy and he’s playing well.
“I’m really pleased because he’s scoring goals and winning man of the match.
“Everything is fine. In football you have to concentrate on the future, and the future is quite positive.”
United, who sold Ronaldo to Madrid in 2009 for a then world record £80million, have made no secret they would one day like the Portuguese front-man to return.
But Benitez gave them no encouragement with his emphatic denial that the pair have a problem as they approach the new season.
And as Ronaldo boarded Madrid's team bus after the game he was relaxed and smiling after his super-show which City found too hot to handle.
Arsenal target Karim Benzema, Pepe and Liverpool target Denis Cherychev added the other goals for the La Liga kings with Yaya Toure's first half penalty City's solitary reply.
