'Mourinho wants Abramovich to launch £70m bid for Paul Pogba'With every goal Chelsea conceded this season, the cries grow louder for Jose Mourinho to sign a combative holding midfielder to help protect a leaking defence and The London Evening Standard claims a £70 million-plus bid will be launched for Paul Pogba shortly
The paper reports that concerns are growing over the Matic-Fabregas partnership in the centre of Chelsea's midfield, with the Spaniard in particular struggling in this deeper role.
Pogba's dynamism, we are told, is what is required and that is why, according to TheLES, Chelsea are prepared to smash their own transfer record - the £50 million they paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011 - to get him.
The Daily Express backs up this claim, saying Chelsea are ready to pay up to £72 million to land Pogba 'after owner Roman Abramovich gave the go-ahead for a second bid this week'.
Apparently, Abramovich had indicated he would not be willing to pay more than £60 million for the 22-year-old France midfielder, but Mourinho is so keen to have Pogba in his line-up that Chelsea will now make one final bid during this transfer window to break the Italian club's resolve.
It is also an offer which will NOT affect Chelsea's bid to sign Everton defenderJohn Stones, which, The Expressreveals, is set to near the £40 million mark in the next few days when they make a fourth bid for the England player.
Sticking with Pogba for one last moment, did anyone see his shocking free-kick against Udinese recently? Maybe £72 million is too much..
