Leicester's Champions League dream was ended by Atletico Madrid despite a spirited fightback by the English champions led by Jamie Vardy.
The La Liga side led 1-0 at the break and 2-0 on aggregate after Saul Niguez planted a superb header in on 26 minutes.
England striker Vardy hauled Leicester back into the quarter-final with his 13th of the season in the 61st minute with a close-range finish.
It was reward for boss Craig Shakespeare's bold double substitution at the break throwing on Leonardo Ulloa upfront and young attacking left-back Ben Chilwell.
