Wayne Rooney is out of Manchester United's Champions League trip to PSV Eindhoven.
The United captain missed the 3-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford after tweaking a hamstring in training on Friday.
And manager Louis van Gaal will not be taking any chances with the striker when his team opens their Euro campaign in the Phillips Stadium on Tuesday night
Van Gaal said: "I don't want to take any risks with our captain. He is much too important for our team. So I don't think he will play against PSV.
"It is a minor injury and I believe that he shall play against Southampton."
